Who are the Bishes?

Caitlin

Caitlin is a dictionary dabbler and enthusiast. A lifelong love of words and languages took her from an undergraduate degree in linguistics straight to unemployment. As a bish does, Caitlin took the logical next step to English language teaching in rural Thailand… and Hong Kong… and Washington, DC where she currently rests her tiara.

This bish has master’s in theoretical and applied linguistics with a specialization in lexicography from the University of Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, which she tries not to say all in one breath. She may be espied through a window in her apartment working on her own GD dictionary, catching up on language news, or at her 9-5 as a test developer in special education. She cares about inclusive language, language equality, neologisms, world Englishes, and bad bishes.

Kaylin

Kaylin is an ESL teacher, curriculum specialist, and teacher trainer.  Like so many other bishes, she started at a hagwon in Korea and fell in love with English language teaching. She’s taught preschoolers in Myanmar, university students in China, and immigrants in the U.S. She currently works with adult learners in a refugee service in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

This bish has an MATESOL from The New School and has been spotted presenting at local and national conferences on contextualized curriculum and use of learners’ own languages in multilingual ESL classrooms. She’s also interested in reflective learning and assessment, translanguaging, and intersectionality in the TESOL field.
